Field Notes

Description:

bright orange flowers on a stalk, corm and leaves similar to gladiolus. Clumps and takes over the garden.

Habitat:

A cultivar; Temperate rain forest

Notes:

It may be native to Africa, but this plant loves it here. Trying to get rid of it doesn't work--it grows in any ditch it's thrown in, and once came up after being rain-soaked in a bucket for a year. It was shared with me from another garden so I don't know which species/variety this is.
