A shrub 5m tal; or a tree later on, 10 to 15m tall, with pinnate leaves composed of 5 to 7 pairs of leaflets and one additional terminal one. The fruits, are grouped in corymbs of 100 or so fruits, bright orange to scarlet pomes. These pomes are about 10mm across; and each bears a star-like formation consisting of dried sepals.

Habitat:

Found in forests on slopes of Jura mountains.

Notes:

The raw fruit is bitter, and hardly commendable; but the cooked and sweetened pulp is appreciated in forms of jams, jellies, sauces and chutneys etc.; reportedly enhancing a "wild" taste.
