Field Notes
Description:
A nest with parent and young. Adults are almost all black with an orange face that has a thin white border. They are a slim waterbird with a straight bill that has a hook tip. Their tail is long and they have large webbed feet. Juveniles are similar but the head, neck, and breast are pale brownish.
Habitat:
Spotted at the Smith Oaks Sanctuary in southeastern Texas.
