Terrestrial caddisflies are very interesting. Hi digi sarah, that's why I added the "here" caveat. In Tasmania we have terrestrial caddisflys.

Female Evergreen Bagworm moths (Thyridopteryx ephemeraeformis) look like this and will live in cypress trees. I don't know if they have a connection to water. It does sort of look like caddisfly, but it's not in water. I'm not sure whether caddisfly larvae ever take their "houses" out of the water or not.

It's a cocoon disguised by the cunning application of sticks. If I found it here I'd say it belonged to a caddisfly larvae.
