I do not know why... Here in India too I see Bee eaters mostly on Electric wires where they mostly landed... otherwise flying high...!!
They are some sort of elongated tail feathers, called a streamer. This Male is supposed to have two
What is the long tail on the end of the squared off tail feathers? Is it like a rudder on a ship? Amazing picture.
