Field Notes

Description:

The leg-span of this spider was about 32 mm (1.25 inch). It was carrying about 100 baby spiders as it crawled around! I called it the 'Kill it With Fire Spider'. Don't worry, I let it go. I'm not 100% certain about the ID.

Habitat:

My woodwork shop, edge of woods.

Thanks for the ID Despina. And Heather, I'm glad you liked my comments about it. (Now that I've ID'ed it, I have edited my comments.)
Ohmygosh I almost spit out soda. Your descriptions were too funny! Awesome pics, by the way.
It's good to hear that you were only joking! She looks like a Hogna carolinensis, by the way: https://war.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hogna_carolinensis#/media/File:Hogna_carolinensis_female_PEM.jpg https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hogna_carolinensis
I know that they can be useful. I was just joking, I did not try to kill it.
So it's a mama spider with her babies... Spiders make great mothers you know, and they are very useful too... You don't have to be afraid of them! Just leave them alone, and you'll be perfectly fine!
