Field Notes

Description:

Large brown spider with dark marks on body, smooth hair and long, strong legs. Fast runner, found on driveway at night in country neighborhood. Eyes produced reflection from camera flash in same manner as an animal's.

Habitat:

Rural, dry farmland

Notes:

Bark piece is as long as my pinky finger (around 2.3"). Thinking this is a wolf spider.

I think it could be a Carolina Wolf Spider, Hogna carolinensis. However, I would like some input from others before I name this spotting for sure. Any help is appreciated!
