Description:

the house was about 2 cm in diameter, body had a light black colour; the house looked like mad out of wood

Habitat:

It is one of the most common species of land snail in Europe and has been introduced to North America.

Looks for me as it could be a "Grove snail".
looks like a type of Cepaea - juvenile? That explains the unusual dark body.
