Field Notes

Description:

Pale green chrysalis, 22mm in length from point of attachment, 12mm at its widest point. Several small flecks of metallic gold including a pair at the apex.

Habitat:

Urban garden.

Notes:

This chrysalis is from Monarch caterpillars from this previous spotting.

No more than two days old and you can already make out the outline of wing veins. Its hard to believe an adult Monarch butterfly will emerge from something this small.
