Fun fact! Most birds have a very poor sense of smell; the turkey vulture however is an exception, using its extraordinary olfactory sense to pinpoint carcasses from over a mile away! It’s the only scavenger bird that isn’t able to kill live prey, having feet that more closely resemble those of a chicken than a hawk or eagle. Although its feet are not designed for ripping flesh, its powerful beak can tear through even the toughest hide. It feeds by thrusting its head into the body cavities of rotting animals, and its bald head ensures that carrion doesn’t adhere to the skin as it would to feathers. https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=10153504913345603&set=a.10152575329380603.958289.10150120463815603&type=1
