Description:

Not great photos but a great spotting! I've been looking for these birds since I moved to Sinai 6 years ago so I was delighted to see many males and females flying around the wadi and hanging out in the acacia trees. These sunbirds are small, around 11 cm, and very active. They have long, curved bills. The male breeding plumage is blue-black with a metallic sheen. Females grey-brown.

Habitat:

spotted in Wadi Kid; in Egypt it is found only in Sinai; "It occurs in areas with high temperatures and dry climate from sea-level up to an altitude of 3200 m. It inhabits dry woodland, scrub, wadis, savannas, orchards and gardens and is common in towns in some areas"

Notes:

aka Orange-tufted Sunbird
