Description:
Lone Sanderling along the south shore of Long Island about 6 hours after eye of Hurricane Irene had passed.Medium sized, black billed, black legs, white underbelly, grey head and wings. Walks at rapid pace along shore as wave receeds.

Notes:
I hope I identified this siting correctly. It was indicated that they are usually seen in groups but, as noted, this was right after the hurricane and there was little wildlife to be seen.
