Description:

Hyacinthus is a genus of bulbous flowering plants in the family Asparagaceae, subfamily Scilloideae.[1] The genus was formerly the he type genus of the separate family Hyacinthaceae; prior to that they were placed in the lily family Liliaceae.[2] They are commonly called Hyacinths (pronounced /ˈhaɪəsɪnθs/), and are native to the eastern Mediterranean region, west Iran, and Turkmenistan.
Three species are within the genus Hyacinthus:
- Hyacinthus litwinowii
- Hyacinthus orientalis - (Common, Dutch or Garden Hyacinth)
- Hyacinthus transcaspicus
