Description:
It has yellow and orange pea-like flowers, 1 inch tall, each made of 5 petals fused together in a snapdragon-like flower. A thin spur below each flower contains nectar.
Habitat:
Spotted on the Tamarac Blackbird Drive. It grows along roads, open fields with sun.
Notes:
Butter-and-eggs was introduced from Europe, escaped from gardens, and now grows throughout Minnesota. When its flower is pinched, it opens wide like a frog's mouth, providing its other common name, Toadflax.
