Field Notes

Description:

Wikipedia: "...a showy perennial species of Phacelia endemic to western North America.Uncommon, ... Sericea comes from the Latin sericeus, or silky, referring to the fine hairs on the leaves and stem."

Habitat:

Wikipedia: "...it grows mainly at subalpine to alpine elevations in forest openings or above treeline among rocks and sand."

Notes:

Found along Old Fall River Road above timberline near the Alpine Visitor Center in Rocky Mountain National Park.

There are two subspecies; the other is ciliosa, which is taller and has a different areal distribution.
