Field Notes

Description:

Spider weaving a large web between my bushes and my house. Black with no visible markings. She looks like she's got a huge, prickly back end. I think (without getting too close) she'd fit on my thumbnail. Another spider nearby looks like the same type- back end is a little brown and striped, almost like a tiny brown moth from underneath.

Habitat:

Yard, bushes by a house. House is in a heavily wooded community.

Thank you, Kyle! After reading your link, I realized I've seen one before, walking through the woods. I think I'd disturbed her web. These I was able to walk under to get close for a photo.
