Description:

This carrot used to grow in the Netherlands. It tasts a bit more earthy then carrots we know nowadays.

I am actually not sure when they started making hybrids, I will look that up another day...
@Lars, it's no Schwarzwurzel, da bin ich sicher. Jeannette is right with the Purple haze, and it seems a hybrid indeed. I didn't realize experiments like these where done ages ago as well.

@Jeannette, I think you're right again on the specie, but I wonder whether it's an F1 hybrid. If it is, it has been 'developed' long ago, I mean like at least a hundred years. I'll dig into that!
I think it's Purple Haze, which is a F1 Hybrid and not heirloom :)
Carrots do come in many colors, including purple, yellow & black...they have that inner orangy color. I grew multi-colored carrots with my students one year.
seems to be a combo of beet and carrots!
