Field Notes

Description:

Male has a chestnut head, black breast and grey back and flanks. A light blue bill. The female is brown with a pale throat.

Habitat:

Found on most lakes or large ponds. It is a summer migrant to northern and eastern Europe, wintering in the south and west.

Notes:

They are generally more active at night than in the day
