Field Notes

Description:

The smallest (1/2 inch) of the cicadas that frequent our area of the jungle. They are solid bright green with no other colors whatsoever. The wings are transparent.

Habitat:

These are normally found beating their heads against everything in sight inside houses in the Amazon rainforest of SE Ecuador. They are drawn to light and fly around banging into everything, including the people.

Notes:

These were a constant source of amazement and amusement for our kids growing up in the jungle. They shrill loudly when held in the hand. They were always released outdoors, but one had to be quick or they would get back in before you could shut the door.
