Field Notes

Description:

Can measure up to 70 centimeters in length.
Body coloration is greenish brown with dark brown spots on the sides. Towards the middle of the body, including the tail, has a thin dark brown lateral line. The belly is yellowish cream.
Has 17 rows of scales by means of reduction in the body between 129-160 and 55-91 subcaudales ventral scales.
The head neck differs. The eyes are large with round pupil. The tail is long.
Females lay eggs under fallen logs.

Is dispersed between 2600 and 3300 meters above sea level by Costa Rica, Panama, Ecuador, Venezuela, Colombia to northern Peru.
Presents eight subspecies.

Habitat:

Is terrestrial habits, although they may be semi-aquatic, keeping close to streams, ponds and lakes. They go from day to hunt, mainly lizards, frogs, fish and arthropods
If you bothered flattens the body but quickly flees. If you are near a swamp escape swimming. It's harmless, but if handled with bites usually defended not dangerous to humans
Frequents the flat lands and hills.
