Field Notes

Notes:

Not the typical mosquitoes here. Not only are they big (almost 1 cm long) these ones where aggressive and would stay put even when you move. And they pack quite a bite! Just hope these were not dengue or malaria carriers :-(

Thanks for the suggestion Christine :-)
Hi Alice and Nath. Yup medyo mahirap. Pag may time siguro iisa-isahin ko hehe. Thanks for the link :-)
Hi Eric. Medyo mahihirapan siguro nating alamin kung anong klaseng lamok yan. Maliban nalang kung iisa isahin mong hanapin sa google lahat ng species dito: http://www.mosquitocatalog.org/default.aspx?pgID=2. There are 294 mosquito species in the Philippines, 43% (128) of which is endemic. For comparison, Brazil has 447 species with 148 endemic, Australia has 231,135 are endemic, Indonesia has 439 species with 108 endemics, and India has 338 with 53 endemics.
Thanks Owen. Was looking at that but somehow this was missing the stripes on the legs. And honestly hope it's not since the tiger mosquito is a carrier of a lot of viral pathogens :-(
I think it might be an Asian Tiger Mosquito. Bravo for being patient enough to take a picture.
