Field Notes

Description:

Very big and very hairy! Prehistoric looking.
They vary in color from , red, black, brown or yellow

I'm not 100 percent sure this is a Tachinid fly, but when I looked it up I felt this is mostly likely it. Can't find anything else that resembles it.

Habitat:

I found this on some wild flowers boardering my yard. They can be found on flowers or marshy areas during the summer and fall. this one was spotte din Connecticut

Notes:

they are lethal predators to the insects they feed on. Most feed on the caterpillar of moths.
Some are deliberately imported from other areas to control destructive moth populations.

Thank you Textless! It's the only one I've ever seen. I will check it out on the web. Thanks for the info.
It kind of looks like a tachinid fly (http://www.projectnoah.org/spottings/7242148)... but there are lots of different kinds. Nice photo!
