Field Notes

Description:

The Bullock's orioles come here to the property where I live every year to nest and raise their young. This is a young male from last year's "crop" but it is a far superior photo to the ones I took this year.

Habitat:

Oak woodlands, dry hillsides, chaparral.

Notes:

The family of which the male pictured here is associated was a particularly visible during the time they were here... I have another photo of the same bird as a juvenile with mostly white plummage and photos of him and the other nestlings in his brood as very young chicks and even a photo of their mother watching them from another tree -- actually she was watching ME taking photos of them seemingly to determine whether I might be a threat!

Keep at it! It took me 2 seasons to get one this good! :o)
lucky you Jean. I have been observing these orioles for quite some time now,but still have no satisfactory snap to post but surely will some day.
Thanks so much for commenting, Atul. Yes, on the whole they are rather shy. As I mentioned, though, this particular brood seemed much more comfortable around me for some reason. (Perhaps because I spent so much time observing them and taking photos, I don't know...)
nice pic love these birds very shy birds always flying away at the sight of humans difficult to photograph too
