Field Notes

Description:

Small, brownish-red cricket with yellow lines on wings. Length 9–14 mm. Short, compact crickets. Forewings covering more than two-thirds of abdomen (male forewings sometimes partially eaten away). According to some experts, the males are often partially eaten by the females after successful copulation.

Habitat:

Undergrowth in moist or wet wooded areas; roadside weeds, gardens.

Keith... I find that Katydids are kind of Crickets... Their camoufledged wings gave name Katydid.
Thank you Cindy! I always liked these because they have such bright, contrasting colored eyes! They are called restless, but really they are not easily disturbed, unlike most crickets that jump away as soon as you move.
Ashish, these are adults as they have wings. They are not katydids that I know for sure they chirp.

This is common stance od Juvenile or nymph stage Katydid. This one look to be Female one.
