Field Notes

Description:

This small rotifer was feeding on phytoplankton. You can watch a video I took of it feeding here: https://youtu.be/Tq1-QtehMI4
<br>
A marine biologist on board skimmed some plankton using really fine mesh nets and we took a drop from that sample and placed it under a microscope. Most of it was phytoplankton from this batch because the mesh size on the net and the shallow depth of the sample, but a few smaller zooplankton were in it, such as this rotifer.

Habitat:

The sample was skimmed in Izhut Bay just off Afognak Island, less than 200 ft. depth.

Notes:

Unfortunately, I don't recall what magnification this was.
