Field Notes

Description:

This snake crossed my path while hiking in Zion National Park. Showed the picture to a park ranger who identified it as a Great Basin rattlesnake....still unsure. Possible black tail rattler, thoughts?

Habitat:

Southwestern US and Northwestern Mexico. Found mostly in scrub brush areas but can also be in rocky craggy areas.
