Field Notes

Description:

Female. Brown body. Dark strip at base of each wing. Wide, thick brown toward but before end of each wing. White spotted markings going down lower body on both sides.

Habitat:

waters edge by dam, of low leveled log filled lake supporting habitat for fowl such as loons, swans, ducks, and fish such as bass.

Ahh. . that solved a question I had while looking at my reference. Someone falsely listed a Libellula Julia as a Lybellula Lydia because of a similar (partially) blue abdomen, which made me question a spotting I listed right before this. lol. But on the same page was a properly labled Libellula Lydia male, with the banded wings and blue abdomen. Thanx! : ))
The males have a stunningly white/blue abdomen. Females have brown abdomens with white spotting. http://www.projectnoah.org/spottings/7045735
Didn't realize my reference stated that it was also a common whitetail, aside from libellula lydia..lol. If you don't mind me asking, if you ever check back to this, how did you know it was female? : )
