This is very interesting I have never seen it in a cotton field. I think I found 1 plant of wild cotton in Florida. http://www.projectnoah.org/spottings/6624298 I know it was grown in the south here on plantations.

When the company car driver told me that it is a cotton filed, I ask him to stop the car a while to let me spot the flower. I do not know if I have chance to spot the cotton next time.
