Description:

This female, no red on her chin at all, was the most plump of the 3 hummingbirds that visited the feeder this day. She would stand watch over the feeder from a perch in the dead Kwanson Cherry Tree branch. Then the other two would appear, she would dive-bomb and chase them away. If you look at her belly, it is noticeably larger around than the next hummingbird at the same feeder. After her chase to the woods, she returned for more sips and more guarding. it's Sept 11 today, and she's out on that same perch today!

Notes:

I think that fighter pilots should watch these critters arial acrobatics because it was amazing!

Melissa, the timing is not perfect at all, actually. It is thousands of hummingbird shots with a good camera, on a tripod. :-)
What adorable photographs, Heather! You had perfect timing!
yea! this is indeed amezing.....good job miller.
Mike - NZ has lots of other animals and plants though. I've looked at some spottings on here and thought to myself, I should get over to NZ and Australia for some of those cool things to spot myself. On my side of North America, I only have the one kind - Ruby Throated Hummingbird. The rest live on the west or south.
These guys are so feisty for their size!
What a little beauty, we have nothing like this here.
Emma, This one was noticeably larger than the other three that frequented this feeder. I assumed it was an adult, and the others were juveniles.
I read an article recently which said that the hummingbirds have increased in size.
Thanks. There are 4 of them. I think a mom and 3 daughters. I also saw a very young male about 3 weeks ago, but only once. I have not seen the adult male at all.
