Description:

A fairly large, sturdy dragonfly - about four inches long. Found near a pond in SW Colorado.

Looks to me like an Aeshna species.Aeshna juncea is the only Aeshna species occurring on both sides of the pond, and it could be well it. However I don't know which species you got over there on your side.

Thanks for the nice comments, and to MickGrant for the possible ID (Green Darner). The dragonfly's body seemed to have more stripy markings than the Green Darners I've found pictures of... but it does look similar. So I'm not sure. :)
