Description:

less than 1cm. black and red, maybe a shield bug nymph?

Habitat:

temperate forest

Notes:

I spotted this bug in the forest across the street from Woodend Conservation Area. I was taking pictures of a Euonymus and spotted this on a leaf.

Stink Bugs vs. Shield Bugs In Stink Bugs, the scutellum(the area in this picture with the two red dots on it) is usually more or less triangular and covers only a portion of the abdomen. In Shield-backed Bugs the scutellum is much more rounded and covers the entire abdomen. Stink Bugs tend to be dorsally flat, whereas Shield-backed Bugs more rounded. Nymphs would never have fully developed wings.
