Field Notes

Description:

There were 3 or 4 of these plants growing an a rocky hillside. One flower was all white without the purple centers. The plant was approx. 12 in. high with multiple branching stems, each with a flower head. The flower heads were about 3/4 in across. Photo 3 shows a head gone to seed. I've spent a lot of time in this area over the last 50 yrs & have never seen this flower before.

Habitat:

In Oregon's High Desert, In an area of scattered juniper, mahoghany, & ponderosa pine. The plants were in an area approx. 20 ft in diameter that was clear of trees with bunch grass & a few other grasses growing nearby.
