Description:

Woodpecker with red head & upper chest, yellowish-gray belly & black back with some white

Habitat:

Oregon's High Desert This guy spent several hours each day in a tree next to our campsite at Junipers RV resort near Lakeview, OR. He rarely flew even when someone walked by close to the tree.

I am looking at Stokes Field Guide to North American Birds, woodpecker section, and there is a similar picture to the 3 you took. Based on the description and your awesome pictures of a yellow sharply turning to red chest and neck, and location of the spotting, I would say this is probably Sphyrapicus ruber (North OR to South Alaska, as opposed to Sphyrapicus daggetti (South OR to South Cali.).
