Field Notes

Description:

Every September an enormous flock roost in the unused chimney of Chapman Middle School. Some years the estimates have been as high as 15000.

Notes:

Added a bit of video-the bigger bird near the beginning that swoops in, I believe, was some sort of falcon. On his third appearance in the video, he seems to get something.

I love the "atmosphere" of this photo.
generally speaking, it goes on for the entire month of Sept. It tends to peak about the middle of the month, so next weekend would be about perfect.
I saw a show about this on PBS & have wanted to get there to see it. How long do they continue, or are they already done? I'm only 2 hrs So, so could still get there if it will continue for a few more days!
I was there a couple of years ago. Amazing!
