Field Notes

Description:

A beautiful bird. The male has a brilliant blue upper body with a brownish red chest and white bottom. The female is a little grayer in color. Their wings are long when opened in flight.

Habitat:

Open fields or big open yards, surrounded by trees.

Notes:

They nest in old Woodpecker holes as well as nest boxes. I always have them in my yard and I have a nest box set up in the open.
