Field Notes

Description:

An attractive long-legged 15 mm leafhopper with a broad triangular head and brown eyes. The whole insect was brown with thin scalloped patterns in a darker shade of brown. <br>
Also on the trunk was a freshly discarded exuvia (pic 3).

Habitat:

Spotted on a smooth trunk of a gum tree at a rest stop along the Hume Highway- Chowne.

Notes:

Leafhoppers live on plant sap. They have long legs suited for jumping. They are from the family: Cicadellidae which has numerous subfamilies. This species is in s/family Tartessinae, Tribe: Stenocotini <br> https://www.brisbaneinsects.com/brisbane_leafhoppers/BlackFlatHead.htm
