Field Notes

Description:

The cap, which is 4 to 15 (up to 20) cm in diameter, hemispherical then spread. Light brown to dark brown, dark brown to injury, it has a thick margin, exceeding.

Tubes, creamy white to pink meat, have rounded pores and angular turning dirty pink by the spores, which is pinkish brown.

The foot measuring 3-15 cm in length, its shape is bulbous and elongated and often curved, creamy white at the base to reddish brown on top and has a network of prominent veins darker.

Habitat:

The bitter boletus is from June to November, mainly conifers but also in hardwood.
