Field Notes

Description:

Small grey squirrels. The mother seemed to have black around her mouth but I could not tell if that was stained or her fur color. They live in the trees in our neighborhood. It seemed that at this time the mother was trying to teach her young to jump from the branch to the fence. There was a lot of chattering from the mother and the children did not seem to want to go the way the mom went. She later took them a different route across a branch that leans on the fence. I think I have the right species identified here, but happy to take corrections.

Mick.. I LOVE your picture. That is so cute. Thanks for the information on the black walnut stain I was wondering what caused that.
I had a similar spotting recently caused by black walnut stain when they bury them. http://www.projectnoah.org/spottings/7386926
These were actually taken different days. The little babies found an alternate route that day that did not involve jumping. I think this squirrel is from the same family as they scamper around our yard often.
Aha nice shot... Did she jumped after this shot...
