Field Notes

Description:

There is a flock or two of these living under the large rosemary bush in my yard. They are very fast moving and alert. It has been difficult to catch a good picture of them. Currently there seem to be roughly 10-15, many babies. They are ground dwelling and largely brown.

Notes:

I believe this is California Quail (Callipepla californica). http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/California_Quail. Would appreciate if anyone can confirm.

Thank you Avatb! We are so lucky to have them. They just arrived this year and have been here since the start of spring. I think they are as you say, California Quail. Appreciate you taking a look!
They look and act like California Quail. The only other choice by look is gamble's quail and they don't really occur where you live. How sweet for you that they hang out in your garden!
