Field Notes

Description:

about 3" high, stem almost 1" wide and sturdy, velvety red cap.

Habitat:

temperate forest, growing from the ground

Notes:

I spotted this in the forest across the street from Woodend Conservation Area. I kind of knocked it over so I brought it home to photograph. The brighter pictures are with the flash. Not 100% sure of the ID but it's definitely a Bolete sp.

Thanks Laura! It is an intense red color under the cap. First time I've seen that too.
That's so cool... I love the textures, and the underside is SUCH an amazing shade of red! So neat :)
