Field Notes

Description:

Typical cicada appearance, approximately 2.5 to 3 cm in body size, wings protruding beyond the tip of the body for another 10 to 12mm. Large box-like head with prominent eyes, and some reddish-brown and black markings on thorax and abdomen.

Habitat:

Widespread and common species in Mediterranean, found in variety of habitats. Here, observed on a dry rocky-and-grassland escarpment, dominating a large Skradin valley. The valley is close to Krka National Park, park itself enclosing a river forming several waterfalls and lakes, and surrounded by a lush broad leaved forest. However, this escarpment was much more arid, and covered by a vegetation adapted to prolonged arid conditions.
