Dark-eyed Junco (slate colored)
Junco hyemalis
40.199, -74.2633
Field Notes
Description:
This little one was photographed in our backyard at the bird feeder, All black with a white underbelly and a dark orange beak. --- Hopefully someone can help identify this little guy! I was thinking some kind of warbler (female or juvenile)? ---
UPDATE: thanks to spotter: avatb my little guy was identified as a dark-eyed junco, which makes sense since he was spotted in central-eastern NJ and we have many pine trees around our home and their breeding habitat is coniferous or mixed forest areas throughout North America
Habitat:
They breed in North American taiga forests from Alaska to Newfoundland and south to the Appalachian Mountains, wintering through most of the USA. They are relatively common across their range.
