Description:

Orange butterfly with black & white spots

Habitat:

Central Oregon forest

Notes:

I found these masses of butterflies mostly on coyote scat, but the also visited the wildflowers in the area

I support Darwinist. Here are two comparison pages from Butterflies of America. While similar forewings on these two species, the hindwing markings of a Great Spangeled are very plain as more intricate on the Oregon species. Thanks for your comments, everyone! I think Jeffery's idea makes more sense as the Silverspot info says it's found on the coast. These are very prevalent in the Cascade Mtns., Central & Eastern Oregon
