Field Notes

Description:

The moth has brown wings with many cool and wavy patterns. The thorax has a mo-hawk that can easily be brushed off with handling roughly. The wings are not like a black cutworm due to small differences on the circles and the white patch on the forewings for the black cutworm that the variegated doesn't.It can be disappeared by sitting on the ground by easily mistaken for the leaf litter.

Habitat:

It was found at a light trap but rested and was seen in the same place a day later. The moth also likes to sit on the grass or mud so they don't get eaten by birds.

Notes:

Male specimen due to the partially feathery antennae.
