Commonly called Indian Pipe or Ghost Plant or Corpse Plant.
This is not actually a fungus. It is a plant that does not have any chlorophyll so it cannot make (photosynthesize) its own food. It gets its nutrients by tapping into the network of fungal fibres called mycellia that live beneath the ground, the main body of a mushroom. Unlike fungus that associate with trees in a mutualistic (mutually beneficial) relationship, the plant gives nothing back... an example of a free lunch.
