Field Notes

Description:

Lestes viridis is a damselfly of the family Lestidae. It has the typical appearance of a Lestes damselfly; it has a metallic green body and at rest it holds its wings away from its body. Its common name in English is the Willow Emerald Damselfly or the Western Willow Spreadwing. Lestes viridis is often put in to the genus Chalcolestes because of its larvae differs from that of other Lestes

Habitat:

My parents garden, Germany..It's sitting on a sculpture standing in the garden.---------Natural Habitat: It occurs in still or slow flowing water in ditches, ponds, lakes and canals, with overhanging willows, alders or birches, which are used for breeding. Of all the European Lestes it is the species, along with L. parvidens, that will lay eggs in where there is running water. The adults are often found in the bushes which grow over or alongside water.

Notes:

I'm not sure if the species is right.. We have many willows in our garden so i thought it could be this one.

Lestes viridis seems fine to me. See the shape of the green part on the thorax and the light-coloured pterostigma's.
