Clown moth
Phaegoptera histrionica
-26.2559, -49.3523
Field Notes
Description:
Around 10cm (4in) long. This is a moth endemic to Brazil, first described by Gottlieb August Wilhelm Herrich-Schäffer in 1853.
Habitat:
Founf in the underside of a leaf, in a patch of very degraded wood, in a small rural town.
Notes:
This moth actually doesn't have a common name. I choose the name "clown moth" because of it's scientific name - histrionica - which means "melodramatic, theatrical, affected, dramatic, exaggerated"... ;-)
