Field Notes

Description:

Yellow, brown and black fly with red eyes. Wings have brown wavy pattern. Abdomen is striped. Thorax has three black stripes down the middle. It was about 1 1/2 cm long.

Habitat:

On an Oleander branch in the backyard

Notes:

No common name. It's a species of the Therevidae family which are Stiletto flies.

I submitted this to BugGuide and the initial thought is a Stiletto Fly. They're still waiting for an expert to confirm. I changed the ID but will modify it if needed.
Thank you Darwinist! It sure does look like it. The problem is the one's with the markings on the wings are from the east coast. At least now I know where to search :) @textless, Thank you!
May be a Snipe Fly, from the Robber Fly family. There are so many robber flies, but this is the closest I could come up with. Looks like it! :)
Any help with the ID would be greatly appreciated. I just love this face!
