Field Notes

Description:

Glossy maroon fiddlehead and young frond emerging from the forest floor. They were hardly 3 or 4 inches tall and grew in the shade of a tree, near its roots.

Habitat:

Spotted in the temperate woodlands of High Rock Park, footsteps from a swamp.
