I just love Mantids! This is a nice picture of an adult female Chinese Mantid. Sphodromantis viridis (African Giant Mantis) is not known to occur in North America and looks a bit different from this. Sphodromantis viridis : http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Mantis-greece-alonisos-0a.jpg You can see the difference in the body shape and the wings.
